MPI 2.1 Document

This page provides access to versions of the MPI 2.1 Standard in various formatting styles, including ones that use color to indicate places where changes or additions were made to the MPI 2.0 Standard.

Formatting Styles

Without specifier: Full page book. These are the only files that should be used for online viewing.
With -small: 0.707 reduction, 2 consecutive pages per sheet, all same rotation.
With -twice: 0.707 reduction, 2 identical pages per sheet, alternating rotation in ps, same rotation in pdf.
Prepared for duplex printing. Prints two times the standards in reduced size books: cut the output in the middle.
With -split-book-A5: 0.707 reduction, 2 identical pages per sheet, alternating rotation in ps, same rotation in pdf.
Prepared for duplex printing. Prints one standard in reduced size books: cut the output in the middle.
You will find two parts for simple binding in your copy shop.
Warning: The one pile has a few empty sheets at the end, which should be removed before binding. Good luck!
With -twice-part1 and -twice-part2: 0.707 reduction, 2 identical pages per sheet, alternating rotation in ps, same rotation in pdf.
Prepared for duplex printing. Prints two times the standards in two reduced size books (Part I, and Part II). Cut the output in the middle. The parts are the same as with -split-book-A5. The title page is not modified, i.e., does not show "Part I" or "Part II", because there isn't an official partitioning of the MPI standard.
Recommendation: Bind Part I with light yellow cover, and Part II with orange cover and add Part I / II on the spine of the books.

Duplex printing: The ps files _twice.ps and -split-book-A5.ps are prepared for duplex printing over the long side!
The total MPI 2.1 standard has 580 pages. The -split-book-A5 version repeats in both parts frontmatter and index and produces two A4-books each with about with 310 pages.

All print-files (pdf and ps) are based on the original .ps files. They internal page references do not work. For online usage, only the independently produced full pdf files can be used.

BLACK: MPI 1.1 - MPI 1.3
BLUE: MPI 2.0
BLUE: All hyperlinks.
RED: All references to the bibliography.
RED: Text modifications for the first step of merging MPI-1.3 and MPI-2.0.
GREEN: MPI-2.1 Ballots 1-4
CYAN: Modifications based on Reviews.
CYAN: Modifications by the chapter authors to achieve a consistent MPI-2.1 document.
MAGENTA: All modification between version Apr. 19, 2008 (draft used in official reading) and final version.

For those interested in producing other versions, for example, for specific page sizes, and who have access to the LaTeX source files, the commands in MAKE-additional-published-MPI-2.1-pdf-files.txt may be used on Linux systems. Note that any such version is unofficial.
